FARMINGTON - Adele Vaigauskas Zale, 90, of Rumford, died early Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Sandy River Nursing Home. She was born July 6, 1915, in Boston, a daughter of Frank and Stasia (Basas) Vaigauskas.

She attended Cambridge High and Latin School, the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston University and Gordon College.

She married the late John James Zale from Rumford. They raised their family at Rumford Corner, where Adele ran a general store and later a ceramic shop where she taught classes.

She was an artist and musician, painting and playing the organ. She was often accompanied by her husband on the accordion. She was an avid reader and amazing cook, especially of family Lithuanian recipes. She was a long time member of the Rumford Point Congregational Church, where she was a church organist and lay minister. She was also a Girl Scout leader, Red Cross director and active member of the Pythian Sisters.

She is survived by two sons, John F. Zale and his wife, Delores, of Minot, N.D., and Eric P. Zale of Albany; two daughters, Sylvia A. Bailey and her husband, Walter, of North Anson and Patricia Sproles of Dallas; five grandchildren, Lonnie Sproles of Dallas, Nona Goheen of Minot, Jacolyn Bailey of Poland, Jennifer Bailey of Portland, and Lucas Zale of Rumford; and four great-grandchildren, Alata Zale of Fargo, N.D., Wyatt Goheen, Brandon Goheen, and Logan Goheen, all of Minot.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; and grandson John F. Zale Jr.

Spring interment will be in Rumford Corner Cemetery. (Morning Sentinel 4/8/2006)
