Lillian Cooper Ellis, 98, of Knoxville, formerly of Sparta, passed away Jan 5, 2001, at Shannon Health Care Center in Knoxville.

Ellis was born April 22, 1903 in Pleasant Hill, Cumberland County to B. Cooper and Mary Pennington Cooper.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sparta and was a member of the D.A.R. Ellis owned and operated Cumberland Furniture in Sparta for 44 years. She attended high school in Cookeville and Martin College in Pulaski.

Ellis was preceded in death by her husband, Verdie C. Ellis, four sisters, Vera Leftwich, Edith Land, Callie Walker, and Treva Foutch, two brothers Robert and Charles Cooper.

Survivors include one daughter, two grandsons and their spouses, 3 granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Jan. 8, 2002 at Hunter Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow. Burial will take place in Highland Cemetery. Jeff Jones will officiate.
