Hassie (Cole) Cooper, b. 24 December 1904 – d. July 1983, Monterey, TN, d/o Alfred & Vinnie Cole.
Funeral services were held Monday for Robert W. Cooper, 47, at the First Baptist Church in Cookeville conductd by Rev. O. P. Gentry, of Sparta. Rev. Bob N. Ramsey, and Rev. O. T. Nelson. Cooper died Saturday afternoon at Monterey as a result of two bullet wounds inflicted by his confessed
slayer, Fate Parker, at the Parker home in Monterey. Burial was in Cookeville City Cemetery.
At a preliminary hearing Tuesday before B. M. Hudgens and B. C. Huddleston, Parker entered a plea of not guilty, and waived examination, and was bound over to the May term of the Criminal Court. He was released on a $2500 bond.
Cooper was the owner and operator of the Mountain View Inn, tourist camp, near Monterey.
He is survived by his wife, two children by a former marriage, one brother, Charlie Cooper, of Dallas, Texas, four sisters, Mrs. Edith C. Land, of Nashville, Mrs. Rice Walker, of Detroit, MI, Mrs. V. C. Ellis, of Sparta, and Mrs. A. T. Foutch, of Cookeville.
