I. D. "Lightning" Kocher, 66, of Ste. Marie, died at 10:33 a.m., Monday, Sept. 5, 1994, at Richland Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, at the St. Mary's Assumption Church in Ste. Marie with Father Donald Kocher officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites performed by the Ste. Marie American Legion at 9 a.m. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., today, (Wednesday), at Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. and one hour before service time.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Assumption Church Building Fund or American Legion Post #20.

Kocher was born at Feb. 17, 1928, in West Liberty, the son of Charles and Bertha (Brookfield) Kocher. He married Florence E. Cunningham Nov. 7, 1953, in Ste. Marie.

He was the owner/operator of Kocher Implement for 25 years in Ste. Marie and a salesman for Newton Implement for several years. He was a member of the St, Mary's Assumption Church. He was also 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Newton Council, and a member of the Ste. Marie American Legion Post #932, Newton Moose Lodge, Olney Elks and Olney VFW. He was also a Korean Conflict Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, of Ste. Marie; two sons, Greg Kocher, of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Kenneth Kocher, of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Michael W. (Connie) Meyer, of Tuscola, and Margie Kocher, of San Antonia,
Texas; a brother, Maynard Kocher, of Willow Hill; four sisters, Bernadine Sittler, of Elkhorn, Wis., Dorthy Bretz, of Decatur, Eugenia Hahn, of Wheaton, and Georgianna Cumpata, of Oswego; and two grandchildren.

Kocher was preceded in death by two brothers, Cletus Kocher and Vincent Kocher, and two sisters, Henrietta Drendel and Viola Pfile.
