Services for Wilma Sprague Stewart, a former principal and administrator in the Dallas public schools, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery.

Mrs. Stewart died of cancer Thursday at Zale Lipshy University Hospital. She was 83.

Shortly after she was married, Mrs. Stewart started with the Dallas schools in 1934 as a substitute teacher. The school district at that time had a rule that no married women could be full-time teachers.

After the restriction was lifted in 1944, Mrs. Stewart taught music, social studies and third grade at George Pea-body School.

In 1956, she became principal at Stevens Park Elementary School, and two years later became principal at William Brown Miller Elementary School. In 1963, she was made principal at Robert L. Thornton Elementary School.

Later, Mrs. Stewart was a director of elementary services and a deputy assistant superintendent. She retired in 1979.

Mrs. Stewart was the daughter of former Dallas Mayor George A. Sprague.

Her husband, Lloyd Stewart, died in 1986.

Survivors include a brother, Dr. Charles Sprague of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Natalie Brown of Pampa; and two nieces and three nephews
