Ernest was the son of Bobby Lee Styles and Lois Smith Styles. He was a 1969 Graduate of Pearl Stephens High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. He served in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Brown Chapel AME Church.
He was married to Velma Styles.
