Captain Ewing was born in Virginia, March 10, 1752. He was the first lieutenant, and afterwards, for three years, captain in the Virginia line, during the Revolutionary War. Resigning his commission, he was made aide on General Green's staff. He was wounded at the battle of Guilford, and rendered unfit for further service during the war.
He was married to Sally Smith who was born in Williamson Co., TN.
