His siblings are Howard (surviving), Lila Hales (sur), Floyd (dec) Helen Hall (dec). He was educated at Weber High School, Utah State University, and the University of Utah. He was in the military service during WW II, enlisting in the Navy. Although he received a degree in Law, he never practiced Law, choosing instead to work for Miles Holcraft as an insurance adjuster. He did however use his legal experience, serving for some time as justice of peace for North Ogden. He first married Verla Adeline Kley, they were later divorced. He later married Gertrude Maynes and enjoyed some great years with her until her death in 1972. Earl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest in the North Ogden 1st Ward. He experienced his temple endowment for the first time in 2002 at the age of 88. Dad always enjoyed having a good hunting dog, watching a good horse race, and going hunting and fishing. He worked most every day in his garden, and shared his harvest with friends and neighbors. His apples were always welcome. He actively worked on the Shaw farm three or four times a week. Dad eschewed the modernization of microwave ovens for toaster ovens, automatic sprinklers for garden hoses, tapes and CD"s for a record player, and remote control for hand control. He was his own man.
He is survived by his son Jerry Louis Shaw (Jana Rae) North Ogden, grandchildren Mary, Ashlee, Lesley, Diana, Jordan, and Kyle. He is also survived by his stepson John William Lay (Gerry) St. George, grandchildren Chad, Cynthia, Penny Jo, Deborah.
