Enlisted in Company F, 53rd Partisan Rangers Cavalry Regiment Alabama under Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest, the greatest cavalryman during the Civil War. Allen enlisted with his nephew Ivy Nicholas Hutto, oldest son of his brother Henry. They enlisted together Sept 1862. There were no muster rolls for the 53rd after December 1863 but both Allen and Ivy were there for their clothing allowance for the 1st quarter of 1864.
Enlisted as a Blacksmith.
