Mary Thomas was the daughter of Abednego Thomas. Mary Thomas Treat died in her childbed on 22 Sep 1742 and was buried at Abington Cemetery. Her husband, Richard Treat, was later buried next to her. In 1889 Gilbert Cope visited her grave and found a large tulip tree had grown between her headstone and footstone. A hole had to be cut in the trunk of the tree in order to read the inscription.
