Professional Boxer. He was the former WBC Junior Welterweight Champion (1984 to 1985). Born William Castiglioni, he achieved a distinguishable amateur career which included the 1978 New York Golden Gloves Title, before turning professional one year later. Costello, tallied an impressive 30 consecutive wins, including his capturing of the WBC Junior Welterweight Crown with a 10th-round knockout over Bruce Curry on January 29th, 1984. He would have three successful title defenses before suffering his first career loss to Lonnie Smith and relinquishing the belt on February 16th, 1985. Following a 4th-round knockout loss to former world champion Alexis Arguello, Costello stepped away from the ring for seven years, returning during the early-1990s and closing out his career with a 10-round split decision victory over Juan La Porte in June 1999. After his boxing career, he served as a volunteer director of the Kingston PAL Boxing Club (Kingston, New York) and was a judge with the New York Athletic Commission. He died from lung cancer.
