Cheed Bolling, the son of John Daniel Bolling and Melvina (Craft) Bolling, married Purthiah Jane Webb, daughter of Benjamin B. Webb, on 12 September 1893 in Letcher County, Kentucky. They had the following children: Oliver and Alvin.

This is an excerpt from Family Burying Grounds in Wise County, Virginia, by James Taylor Adams, p. 36:
"Cheed Bolling was a son of Needlehead John and Melvina (Craft) Bolling. He was shot and killed by W. Wright on Christmas night, 1897, in the road opposite the mouth of Critical Creek on the Beaver Dam Fork of Guests River."
