FAMILY MEMOIRS - Peggy Ann (COOPER):
**********************************
Paul's mother abandoned him by the time he was two years of age. His great-aunt, Abbie Collum, took him and gave him a good home. She loved him and catered to all his whims and spoiled him considerably. Consequently, he became an irresponsible adult with considerable problems, including alcoholism. He was drunk most of the time, unemployed, lazy and did not overcome his alcoholism until his later years.
His second wife, Iva, divorced him due to his cruel abusive treatment of his family. It was a bad marriage and the children suffered greatly under his control, so Iva was advised to separate as the family required extensive therapy to overcome their problems.
Paul hardly knew his children as they were strangers to him.
By 1994, he was in a wheel chair at a nursing home, became a humbled man and faithfully read his Bible.
His daughter, Pauline, became his guardian and visits him. She is a nurse at Lawrence General Hospital. She was an honor student at Thornton Academy at Saco during 1966.
She is a wonderful person, and very loyal to
her parents.
