Frank C. Gowen drowned in the Saco River.
On his way home, about 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, while passing over the Somesville Bridge, he heard someone call out below, asking for help to move his boat. While attempting to assist the man, Frank lost his footing and fell into the river.
Rescue was tried, a boat was rowed to place and Gowen was taken to shore.
The doctors worked over him for an hour.

He had been a member of Company G, National Guard, and was a Corporal.
He was very well and favorably known in the two cities.

FAMILY MEMOIRS - Peggy Ann (COOPER):
**********************************
My grandmother, Sadie (Davis) Gowen, vanished after the death of her infant, abandoning her other two children to the care of relatives. What became of her remains an unsolved mystery.
These children suffered considerably as a
result of Sadie's disappearance, a traumatic experience that haunted them for the rest of their lives and spread to the next generations.
