Byron E. Waters, 81, Waverly died on Thursday morning, June 28, 2001 at Heritage Manor in Springfield. He was born on July 19, 1919 in Athensville, the son of Byron and Avia Leona Edwards Waters. He married Dorothy Alice Hobbs on September 9, 1940 and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons: Edwin of Ursa and Nyle (wife, Donna) of Bement; one daughter, Karen Waters of Springfield; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters: Beulah (husband, Wesley)Spencer and Mabel (husband, Marvin) Walkington both of Jacksonville and Ruby (husband, Woodrow) Butcher of Roodhouse; and several nieces and nephews.

He retired in 1981 from R.B. Evans Construction Company of Springfield as a construction superintendent. He was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 16. He was a member of the Palmyra Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and was past Worthy Patron in 1963. He was also a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois, Scottville Lodge 426, which he joined in 1951 and he was a past master serving in 1964. He was a Past District Deputy Grand Master of the State of Illinois from 1965 to 1969. He was also a member of the Jacksonville York Rite; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of Springfield; a member of Knights Templar in Jacksonville; an honorary member of Waverly Lodge 118; Watley Lodge 616 in Franklin; and a member of Waverly Baptist Church.

Services were entrusted to Neece Funeral Home in Waverly.
