"The death of Erastus Keith one of the oldest resident of Barre and descendent of an early settler of Barre, occurred at his home 11 Patterson street Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock . Since early fall, Mr. Keith had been in failing health and after December 1 he was constantly confined to the house. Death came as a result of acute indigestion together with the infirmaties of old age. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters Missis Alma E. Keith and Nellie I. Keith of Barre, one son Albert M. Keith this city, One sister Agnes Loverein of Chicago and two brothers Lewis Keith of Websterville and Clinton Keith of Hardwick. Erastus Keith the third child of Francis and Persis (Bigelow) was born in Barre September 26, 1826. His fathers farm was on the Orangetown line where he lived until the age of twenty two, in the meantime attending the district schools of the day. Later he engaged in farming, also engaged in sheep-raising and maintained an excellent dairy. In his chosen occupation Mr. Keith was accounted a successful man. His marriage to Laura M. Bradford took place in Barre April 23 1850. Before Barre became organized as a city. Mr. Keith served effectively as a selectman, town auditor and lister until his health began to fail latterly. Mr. Keith was hale and hearty in appearance and seldom needed the services of a doctor. The funeral was held at the house this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. Edward Downey pastor of the Universalist Church; assisted by Rev. E. O. Thayer of the Hedding Methodist Church. The bearers were as follows: P. O. Wheaton, E. E. Perry, L. E. Grant, A. M.
