Diminutive Irishman Dermot Kelly was a familiar face in comedy on TV and Films in the 1960's and 1970's. His speciality was either playing tramps or con-men.

He was born in Enniskillen, on May 15, 1917,and spent most of his working life in London. He was best known for playing a lovable little tramp in "The Arthur Haynes Show" in the 1960's.

He also played the part of Sidney the barman in the long-running Irish soap "The Riordons" in the 1970's.

His movies included : Crooks Anonymous (1962), The Wrong Arm of the Law (1963, w. Peter Sellers), Cup Fever (1965) and Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter (1968).

Dermot also featured in a few TV series including :

"Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) (ep."The House On Haunted Hill") 1969

"The Champions" (ep. "The Mission") 1969

"Sykes" (1978)

Dermot was due to film a second series of the ITV sitcom "Spooner's Patch" when he died suddenly at his Dublin home.

All sources that I've seen previously say that he died in Hampshire in 1980. Indeed there was a man of that name who died in Portsmouth in that year, but it wasn't the actor.

In fact, "our Dermot" died in Dublin on 18th February 1980 as an article from the Irish Independent, 19/2/80, confirmed.
