Canadian politician. Born on September 20,1923 in Montréal. An economist, he was first elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal member representative for the Îles-de-la-Madeleine circonscription on June 18, 1962. He was reelected in 1963 and 1965, but he lost his bid for a fourth mandate when he switched his candidacy for the Saint-Hyacinthe riding in the general election of June 25, 1968. For February 3, 1962 to September 30, 1966, he was Minister of Forestry and from October 1, 1966 up to July 5, 1968, he was Minister of Forestry and Rural Development. He was the husband of Jeanne Sauvé, Governor General of Canada from 1984 to 1990.
