Head-On Crash Takes Life Of Lloyd H. Rudesill

Lloyd H. Rudesill, 71, a life long resident of this community was killed instantly, on Wednesday, August 26, 1964 at about noon in a head-on crash. Death was a result of a broken neck.

The fatal crash occurred about 2 miles north of Baldwin on Highway 63, very near the Happy Valley School. Mr. Rudesill was driving south, the other car, driven by Russell Gherty of the Town of Erin Prairie was coming from the south when the crash occurred. The pictures appearing with this account show that vehicles struck on the right front of their respective cars. Both drivers were alone and we understand that there were no witnesses for the accident.

Mr. Gherty suffered a heart injury, his face and lip were cut and received many other cuts and bruises. He is a patient at the Baldwin Community Hospital and is well on his way to recovery. Dr. J. A. May attended both victims at the scene of the crash.

Lloyd H. Rudesill, son of Hiram Rudesill and his wife Ida Burdick Rudesill, was born December 1, 1892 in the town of Eau Galle, St. Croix County, Wisconsin.

On October 28, 1916 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Brummels. To this union were born: Gordon, Elmer, and Stanley, all of Baldwin.

He spent his entire life in this community. Preceding him in death were his parents and several brothers and sisters. Surviving his untimely death are his wife Elisabeth, his three sons, ten grandchildren, two great grand children and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Green of Minneapolis and Mrs. LaVern Rovig of Binford, North Dakota.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29. 1964 at the Sakri Funeral Home with Pastor W.E. Broen of the Baldwin First United Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was made in the Baldwin Cemetery. Casket bearers were Wesley Vrieze, Marion Vrieze, Leslie Rens, Frank Van Someren, Arnold Wikkerink and Wayne Karnes.
