Warren owned and operated two South Salina Street grocery stores for 25 years before his retirement in 1950. During this time he and his wife lived on St. Agnes Hill in the Elmwood section of Syracuse.
In 1948, Warren and Esther bought the former Willis Spafford farm on Falls Road in Marcellus which was east of where the Walker children grew up (they recalled helping pick up stones from the fields for "Uncle Will"). Warren planted a large garden every year and at one time had strawberry beds for self-pickers. Later he planted Scotch-Pine Christmas trees and then a plot of five different lumber pine trees. Warren and long-time friend, John Starr, built the fieldstone fireplace in the living room from stones collected on the farm.
During this time, he worked for the Stuart Nursery (Newark, NY) selling nursery stock and designing home landscaping and then became a real estate broker. In later years, he also was a security guard for Morris Protective Service at Syracuse China.
Warren and Esther enjoyed playing cards (especially Pitch) and Scrabble as well as pitching horseshoes. They made a trip to Washington D.C. in a new Henry J. car and later to Florida and Arizona with their Volkswagen Camper.
Warren died at Community-General Hospital after a short illness and services were held at the Norris Funeral Home in Marcellus with Masonic services by the Konosioni Masonic Lodge 950, where had been a long-time member.
