Herbert A. Schuler, 94, of 1110 Cleveland St., Kiel, died Friday morning, Sept. 7, 2001 at the
Willowdale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Holstein, where he resided since February of 2001. He was born August 3, 1907, in St. Nazianz, son of the late Gottfried and Agnes Schram Schuler. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School in St. Nazianz. On May 18, 1937, he married Marcella Lavey in Elkhart Lake. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1977. In March 1980, he married Irene Lisowe in Chilton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 27, 1995.
Herbert farmed most of his life in the Town of Schleswig before moving to Kiel with his wife, Irene, in 1980. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel and the Kiel Senior Citizens. Herbert enjoyed playing cards and assembling puzzles.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice (Art) Stahl, rural Elkhart Lake; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Mike) Steffen, New Holstein; three step-daughters, Lorraine (Glen) Cocroft, Colorado; Diane Gulf, Wisconsin and Linda (Dan) Varelli, Colorado; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, "Petie" Schneider and Sally Zych, both of Manitowoc and two sisters-in-law, Marion Schuler, Chilton and Rita (Norman) Brost, St. Nazianz. He was preceded in death by one son, Bernard Schuler, two brothers, Edward and Arno and three sisters, Clara Kautzer, Leona Brunmeier, and Florentine Backhaus.
Funeral services will be held at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Kiel, with the Rev. Loren Nys SDS officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
