Mollie Dorsey Sanford was a pioneer woman. She was born in Rising Sun, Indiana. Her family moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska where she started a diary about her life on the plains. She met and married Byron North Sanford and soon after the marriage they began an eight week journey by oxen drawn wagon to the Colorado Territory. She continues her diary which later became the book, "The Journal of Mollie Dorsey Sanford in Nebraska and Colorado Territories 1857 to 1866". The book became an important document of Western American history and is regarded as one of the most accurate accounts of what life was like on the American frontier of that time. Her journal is on the reading lists in American History classes at many High Schools and Universities.
