WASHINGTON, Pa. — Charles Ralph "Jake" Barr, age 77, of Washington, Pa., died Monday, July 6, 2009, in Washington Hospital.He was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Wadestown, W. Va., a son of Floyd Lee Barr Sr. and Florence Mae Jackson Barr.Mr. Barr served in the United States Army from Oct. 17, 1952, until his honorable discharge on Sept. 27, 1954. He was assigned to Company B, 1279th Engineering Battalion in Germany, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal – Germany. After discharge from the regular Army, Mr. Barr served in the Army Reserves until Oct. 16, 1960.For 27 1/2 years, Mr. Barr worked as a foreman at Ply Craft in Conneaut, Ohio.He was a member of Moose #318, the Arden Club and a lifetime member of the former Eagles #687. Mr. Barr was a very devoted husband who enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Barr was Methodist.On June 12, 1971, he married Melba Hope Davis, who survives...Deceased are three sisters, Betty McCoy, Mary Ann Barr and Patty Sloneker; and a brother, Floyd Barr Jr.Friends will be received Wednesday, July 8th, from 9 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, in WILLIAM G. NEAL FUNERAL HOMES, LTD., 395 E. Maiden St., Washington, Pa., with the Rev. Thomas P. Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow in North Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery, Amity, Pa.
