Thanks to GreggMulry for sending the obituary and for adding a memorial for Phebe's husband.
Luther's obit in the Black River Falls Badger State Banner was brief and did not contain many details. Phebe's obit in the 27 July 1893 edition (p 2) was a bit more extensive:
"Mrs Phebe Spaulding, wife of Luther Spaulding died at her home near the city of Robinson, Illinois, on July 15, 1893, of stomach trouble, from which she had suffered for about a year past. She was born in Rhode Island on July 28, 1819, and was married to Mr Spaulding in Pennsylvania in 1841, and they soon moved to Wisconsin, and were among the early settlers of this city. About 20 years ago they purchased a large farm in Tennessee and moved there; but finally it was not very congenial there for an ex-union soldier. Mr Spaulding sold out and moved to Ohio. From the latter state they went, about eight years ago, to Illinois where they have a daughter living. Mr Spaulding survives her. They last heard of their son Albert in the southwest territories. The Robinson Argus says the deceased had been a member of the Presbyterian church for 58 years, and had lived the life of a devoted Christian, enjoying the highest respect and esteem of all her neighbors and acquaintances wherever located."
--
Phebe was the wife of Luther Spaulding born about 1818 in Vermont. She is buried with her husband and her son, also named Luther, who served during the Civil War. She was also the mother of another son named Norman or Albert, whose grave has not been located. One reference lists her maiden name as Finner and it has not yet been found which spelling is correct.
Phebe's death year is listed incorrectly as 1898 in a record of Oak Grove burials.
