CONCORDIA - Sister Mary Grace Waring, 98, Concordia, died Sunday, May 15, 1994, at Nazareth Convent, Concordia.
Sister Mary Grace was born Ada Waring at Oregon, Mo., and in 1912 came to Nazareth Academy in Concordia. She entered the convent on May 10, 1914, and received her habit and religious name Aug. 15, 1914, and made final vows Aug. 15, 1916. She taught at Nazareth Academy from 1916 to 1921 and on the faculty at Marymount College most of her life. She witnessed the dedication of the college on June 4, 1922. She was head of the science department at Marymount College, retiring in 1983, after 60 years of service. She started the Marymount Alumnae Association and Alumnae M Clubs were organized in various parts of the country.
Sister Mary Grace was a nationally recognized educator and research chemist, receiving research grants from the American Cancer Society and Kansas Heart Association. She directed the Marymount College Science Fair for six years and served two years on the National Science Fair Committee. In 1975 she started work on the Marymount Archives and was responsible for preserving history and records of the college since its beginning. She published articles in the North Central Quarterly, the Proceedings of the Kansas Academy of Science and the Journal of Chemical Education. She was featured in "World Who's Who of Women" and in "American Men and Women of Science."
Survivors include nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel, Monsignor Alfred Wasinger officiating. Burial will be in Nazareth Cemetery.
A Scripture service-will be at 7 p.m. today at the, Motherhouse Chapel, with Sister Redempta Eilert eulogist. The Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, is handling arrangements.
