Moses entered Civil War service from Olmsted County. He served in Company K of the 9th MN Infantry. Many from his unit including Moses were captured June 10, 1864 at Guntown, MS. He returned home, after being released from Andersonville, to Saratoga and died July 17, 1865. After being released from Andersonville he went to a hospital in Ms and then was sent home essentially to die of illness incurred at Andersonville. He died just a couple of months after returning home. He is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, MN along with his wife Eliza, son Elmer and his wife Isabella. Note the spelling of his last name changed from Chamberlain to Chamberlin in later years. Moses was originally buried elsewhere, probably Saratoga, and was transfered to Woodlawn in 1913 when his wife died. Note the date on his stone is incorrect - it should be 1865 according to his civil war documents. All Civil War documents have the spelling as Chamberlain.
