Erna was the 6th child born to Huey Bailey and Mary Elzeanor Duplessis Stephens.
The family attended the local Pentecostal church and were strong in their faith. That faith brought them through many trials and difficult times.
Erna was an excellent cook and never followed a recipe. She loved her family and doted on them lovingly. She was the "rock" of the family.
When their children were born, they were baptized in the Methodist church. I am not certain why, but maybe they considered it a compromise since Uncle Emile was catholic.
Her loving and pure soul will always be fondly remembered and missed.
Census information was nicely provided by Mary Jane Bernard. 1920 census for Ascension Parish gives Erna [Irna] Stephens' birth as ca. 1914 in Louisiana.
