Norm had his elementary education in country schools and rode the bus into Manhattan for his high school. He graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Ore., and served as a second lieutenant in the Army during World War II.
Norm was united in marriage to Marie Wark from Moccasin, Mont., on Oct. 13, 1944. To their union three children were born: Cheryl, Steven and Suella. They lived on a small cattle ranch, and he worked at Yellowstone Pine Saw Mill as a lumber grader.
During retirement they spent several years doing volunteer carpenter work remodeling churches, boys' ranches and missionary schools. In 1990 they moved to Boardman, Ore., to watch their grandchildren grow up. After his stroke his desire was to encourage his extended family by praying for growth in their spiritual life and to stay with his wife so she would not become a widow. Norm enjoyed traveling, carpentry, Bible study and singing.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie DeBoer of Boardman, Ore.; children, Cheryl Tallman and her husband, Terry of Boardman, Ore., Suella Graybill and her husband, Larry of Post Falls, Idaho, and daughter-in-law, Sharon DeBoer of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.; sister, Lucille TeSelle of Bozeman; grandchildren, Jon Tallman, Derrin Tallman, Crystal and Shawn Hemple, Ben Graybill, Aubrey Graybill, Charlotte and Jay Divine, Christine and Brian Benson, Shannon and Rudy Falsis; and seven great-grandchildren.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steven DeBoer; brother, Ted DeBoer; and sisters, Mae DeHaan and Ruth Swanson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Riverview Cemetery, Boardman, Ore.
Contributions in Norm's memory may be made to Les Feldick Ministries, 30706 W. Lona Valley Road, Kinta, OK 74552.
Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, Ore., is in care of arrangements.
