Sycamore Resident And a Retired School Teacher Of Schools In DeKalb County Passed Away On Thursday After Stroke.

Mary Rutledge, a resident of this area all her life, passed away at the home of her niece, Mrs. Harry Coles in South Grove township, on Thursday evening at the age of 72.
A resident of Sycamore for more than twenty years, Miss Rutledge went to her niece's home ten days previously and a few days later suffered a stroke of paralysis that eventually claimed her life.

Taught 25 Years
Miss Mary Rutledge was born on May 29, 1868, in South Grove township, the daughter of Mary Hayes and Patrick Rutledge. She graduated from Sycamore High school, took necessary prerequisite training and taught in DeKalb county schools for more than twenty-five years.
When her parents passed away in 1918, she moved to Sycamore and resided since that time at 361 Grant street. For the past ten years she had spent the winter months with her niece and the summer months in this city. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church here.
Throughout her years of teaching and the years since she retired, Miss Rutledge's industry and fine traits of character won for her a host of friends who mourn her passing. Her fine record of public service in the institution of learning in this county speaks for itself for her faithfulness to her duties and her ability.
