Some think he was the son of David Weaver (1745-1813) and Massenbird Shoemaker of Oglethorpe County, GA. David also had a son named Peter but the birth date is different: 17 May 1771 with birth location of Goochland Co., VA.

While others think Peter of Hall County was the son of Daniel Weaver who may have been from German or Swiss extraction. Peter's first children were born in SC and this may be why some researchers assume a German extraction perhaps from the area in SC known as Dutch Fork (Lexington County, SC). Many researches believe he had 2 sisters Nancy Loden and Sarah Hinkle, who both died in Hall County, GA.

The census and dates on the grave stone are confusing: the gravestone shows a death date of 12 Jun 1850, but the 1850 census taken in Hall County in August 1850 shows a P. Weaver aged 77 born in Virginia, living in the household of Elizabeth Weaver, widow, aged 62. Was a dead man listed on the census with his widow, or did Peter die after Aug 1850, or was this Elizabeth Weaver a widowed sister-in-law or some other kinship?

Both David of Oglethorpe County and Peter of Hall County gave some of their male children with the same names: Samuel, Simeon, David and Peter. This could also indicate a relationship.

Many researchers believe Sarah Weaver Hinkle and Nancy Weaver Loden (both are buried in this cemetery) are the Peter's sisters.
