Abner moved with his parents in a covered wagon when he was 1 year old from Tennessee to Henry County, Lewisville, Indiana. He stayed there 61 years then went to Iowa and then Carlyle, Kansas in 1881 or 82. Stayed there briefly then went to Burlington, Ottumwa Township, Coffey County, Kansas. He was a farmer and stock raiser. An article was written in the Burlington Republican on April 26, 1901 telling of his manner of death when walking to a relatives he suffered what appeared to be a stroke. He leaned against a hay bale and wrote the effects of the ailments that suddenly struck him. He was found lying on the hay, hat drawn over his eyes, the scribbled notes by his side.
