George A. Heinrich, age 92, of Alma passed away Saturday, July 28, 2001, at his home.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1 at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home in Alma. Rev. Keith Wise of the St. Louis Church of Christ and Rev. Mel Harrell of the Vestaburg Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be at Richland Township Cemetery in Vestaburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice or the St. Lois Church of Christ.


George was born Jan 9, 1909 in Kalamazoo, the son of George and Catherine Heinrich.

He married Dessa Andrews on June 5, 1932. She preceded him in death in 1984. He married Elrosa Bigelow on Dec. 22, 1985.


George farmed in the Central Michigan area for many years and managed the Sunoco Gas Station in Vestaburg for several years. He retired from General Electric in Edmore in 1971.


George was a member of the St. Louis Church of Christ. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed following the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. He followed baseball very closely, and visited every one of the American League Baseball Parks that the Tigers play in. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.


He is survived by his wife, Elrosa; a daughter, Kay Peasley of Vestaburg and five grandchildren, Kurt (Kathy) Peasley, Kevin Olson, Ryan (Sarah) Peasley, Todd (Julie) Olson and Lisa (John) Peasley. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren and three stepchildren, Nona (Les) Tryon of St. Louis; Fran (Larry) Roth of Milford and Larry Saunders of Jackson; a step daughter-in-law, Bonnie Saunders of St. Louis, and numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren.


Two brothers, John (Mazie) Heinrich of Southfield and Lewis (Dorothy) Heinrich of Florida; seven sisters, Mildred Hansen of Saginaw, Doris Zelhart of California, Marie Sweet of Clare, Lola Houlihan of Saginaw, Ann (James) Higgins of California, Isabelle (Jim) Brandel of Saginaw and Jackie (Jack) Darrow of California, survive him.


His first wife, Dessa, daughter, Janice Olson, stepson Donnie Saunders and brother Bernard Heinrich, preceded George in death
