Ernest Perry Black, "Ernie Black," 86, passed away at his Las Vegas home, Thursday, October 22, 2009. He was born April 27, 1923, in Independence, Missouri.

Ernie grew up during the depression and worked on the family farm with his brothers and sisters in Missouri. He was the fourth child in a family of 11 children. He moved to Fallon, and then to Virginia City, where he worked at the local movie theater as a projectionist. At the age of 18, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a film projectionist in Germany throughout World War II. After the war, he went to California and worked with his brothers in construction. He later moved to Las Vegas, where he started his building and block business, Ernie Black Masonry, until he retired in his 70's.

Ernie loved boating at Lake Mead and spending time with his family. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ernie was also a man that knew what it meant to work hard. He taught his trade to many and was a mentor to those that worked for him. He has left a long-lasting legacy on his family and friends. Ernie made his mark on Las Vegas throughout the years and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Samuel Black and Ollie Mae Reed Black; two brothers, John E. Black of Los Angeles, and Chester A. Black of Joplin, Mo.
