Mr. Stevens died in his sleep Friday, Sept. 24, 2004. He was born in a covered wagon Jan. 19, 1916, in Deadwood, S.D.
He was raised in Wadena. He worked in the CCC's, served in the Army for the duration of WWII, and was a 40-year member of the Bricklayers Union.
Mr. Stevens loved sports, especially Gopher hockey. He was an avid hunter.
He always wanted to fly a plane, but instead he saw men land on the moon.
Mr. Stevens always had a smile and a story, and loved telling anyone his latest joke. He said "there are only so many beats in a heart," and he had his last one on Friday.
He is survived by his sister, Rose Busker of Wadena; daughters, Jacqueline Wright of Brooklyn Park, and Mary Robinson of Osseo; grandchildren, Michelle (Darren) Gens, Luke (Kari) Wright, Hollie Robinson, Jessica (Allen) Ronngren, Nicholas Robinson, and Chelsea Robinson; great-grandchildren, Alex, Gavin, Kristina, Makayla, Tristan, and another due in March 2005.
Mr. Stevens is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Bernice A., 80, who died April 11, 2003; also by Caroline, Jack, Anna and Albert.
He was loved greatly and will be so missed. A grateful "Thank You" to all the special people at Northridge Health Care in New Hope.
If so desired, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
