Rachel was born March 29, 1841, in New York, daughter of Sands Schofield and Mahala Taucher, both also born in that state. She died Oct. 6, 1914, in Sumner Twp., Barron Co., Wis., aged 73 years, 6 months and 7 days, and was buried beside the remains of her husband in the Sumner Cemetery.
On March 29, 1858, Rachel married Silas J. Packard at Poynette, Columbia Co., Wis. Silas was born Nov. 9, 1849, in Vermont, son of Solomon Packard and Susan Hunt, both also born in that state. He died Sep. 16, 1911, in Barron, aged 71 years, 10 months and 8 days, and was buried in the Sumner Cemetery. His Packard gravestone is inscribed "Father Silas J. 1840 - 1911" and that of his wife "Mother Rachel 1841 -- 1914." Their children, all born in Wis., were:
