Death of Mrs. A.A. Howlett
She was a most estimable woman and prominent in benefic at enterprises

Mrs. Minerva Ames Howlett, wife of Alfred A. Howlett, president of the Salt Springs national bank, died at her home, No. 600 West Genesee street, shortly after 7 o'clock last evening. She had been in feeble health for some years and death was not wholly unexpected. The death of her daughter, Mrs. J.F. Durston, last January proved a severe shock, from the effects of which she never fully recovered. The death of her sister, Mrs. Burndell of Mexico, last September also came as a severe blow.
Mrs. Howlett was the daughter of Leonard Ames, one of the early pioneers of Oswego county. She was born in the village of Mexico, Oswego county on August 3, 1820. She was married to Mr. Howlett in Oswego on June 13, 1854 and removed with him to this city where Mr. Howeltt conducted a general --- and banking business. During the many years in which Mr. Howlett has been ---- with the growth and prosperity of Syracuse she proved a most valuable helpmeet and to her sympathy and encouragement he owes much of the success he has attained.
She always took a deep interest in educational and benevolent matters. She was a prime mover in the undertaking which has resulted in the present women and children's hospital, and when her health --- she labored energetically in its behalf. She was for several years a director of the Onondaga orphan asylum and gave much of her time and wealth to the furtherance of this noble work. With the Women's -----
Mrs. Howlett possessed a broad intellectual culture and a natural --- which made her a woman of most charming personality. Hers was a --- chaste nature and she found her greatest pleasure in relieving the disadvantaged wants of others. Besides her husband and one son, A. Ames Howlett of this city, she leaves two brothers, Leonard Ames of Oswego and Henry Ames of Los Angeles, Cal. The funeral will take place at her last home next Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
