Walter James Calvin "Jimmy" Smith & Martha Rowena (Grant) Smith were parents of seven babies that died when each of the babies were 3 days old. All were SINGLE BIRTHS except for one who was born a twin to their oldest child Jasper Walter Henry Smith who lived to be 76 years old. There is a marker at Liberty Cemetery for this baby. His name was Walton Smith. The names and dates of birth and death of each of the other six babies is unknown, but there were 4 girls and 2 boys. They are all buried in three plots between those of their parents and their sister, Ollie Sims in Liberty Cemetery.

This was so sad for the family of these little babies. Albert Sims, my uncle and a grandson to Jimmy & Martha told me that his grandmother would sit up all night with her baby on the second night after its birth because she knew the baby could possibly die during the night. Out of 10 children born to her, only three survived that long long night. These babies were born and died in the late 1800's and no one knew the cause of the deaths.

My grandmother, Mary Olive "Ollie" Smith, was the 2nd child to live in this family and she died at the age of 78 years. Her little sister, Norma Ellen Smith was the last child to survive and she lived to the age of 76 years.
