Marcella Mary Strauss was born Nov. 20, 1912, at Foxholm, N.D., the daughter of Valentine G. and Anna (Willenbring) Engelhard. She grew up at Foxholm, and attended school there and at the Notre Dame Academy in Willow City. Seeking employment, she moved to Harvey with her sister in 1932. There she met Aloys Strauss. They were united in marriage on Oct. 4, 1937, in Harvey, and they were blessed with seven children. Aloys died suddenly on March 17, 1958.
She continued to live in Harvey and raised her children. She worked as a nurses aid at the St. Aloisius Nursing Home from 1960 to 1993, when she retired. She moved to Oshkosh in August 2000.
Marcella was a member of the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and LaVerne Fry, Dickinson; six sons and five daughters-in-law, William (Yvonne), Green Bay, Wis., Howard (Bobbie), EnCinitas, Calif., Dan (Peg), Hilbert, Wis., Aloys Jr. (Linda), Oshkosh, and Levi, Orlando, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter Jane Strauss; four brothers, Roman, Ed, Isador and Gene; and three sisters, Alma, Susie and Alvina. (Hertz Funeral Home, Harvey)
