He was born in 1824 in France, and came to America, with his parents at an early age, settling in Frenchtown, Crawford, Pennsylvania.
In 1861 he went to Fort Wayne, Indiana and immediately went into the country, making his home near Hadley, on the farm now known in 1907 as the Lourent homestead.
Ferdinand was twice married, the first time to Pauline Beadeaux who died in 1873. In 1881 he married Louisa Bercot[sic]of Detroit who died the following year.
Mr. Lourent leaves behind four sons and four daughters; August, of Fort Wayne; Fred, of Oklahoma; Frank J., who is treasurer of Blackford County, Michigan; Julian, who lives on the homestead near Hadley; Mrs. Louisa Van Dewater, of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Dora Wentzler, of Fort Wayne; Mrs. Josephine Geller, of Plymouth, Ind.; and Mrs. Howbridge of Poneto, Ind. There are also ten grandchildren, and one brother Victor Lourent who lives in the west; and one sister, Mrs. J. Poishe, of Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
One of his sons, Louis Lourent, suffered death at the hands of Samuel McDonald, near Arcola, in 1883, The crime created much excitement in this neighborhood, and McDonald was hung for it in Allen County.
Ferdinand's remains were taken to the farm near Hadley. The funeral services held Feb. 6th, at 8:30 from the residence near Hadley and at 9:30 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Arcola, of which Mr. Lourent was a devout member.

Suggested edit: Hello, you write "Ferdinand was twice married, the first time to Pauline Beadeaux who died in 1873" but it's wrong. She was Pauline Demaison. You might want to look at the 1934 marriage record of one of Ferdinand Laurent's sons, Frank, which clearly identifies his mother as Pauline Demaison: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-6Q6R-7S?i=80&cc=1410397&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AXXV8-PNG. Of course she was not born in Paris but still he knew her mother's name for sure. Can you correct the information please? a lot of people from over the world use findagrave to trace their cousins in America, it's my case. I live in France. Thank you! Have a nice day! Marie
