"Mr. Beckermann was born in Hanover, Germany, and at the age of 16 years enlisted in Company "C" 30th regiment of the Missouri Volunteer Infantry.""The funeral was held from his residence Saturday afternoon (March 17, 1917) at 2:30 o'clock, and was conducted by members of the G.A.R. and his body was laid to rest in the Valle Spring Cemetery.

After the war he came home and made his living selling vegetables for a living. He owned most of the land from Jefferson to Washington and Seventh to Eighth with only one other house in the block.

George was an active member of the Civil War Veterans organization in Ste. Genevieve named Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James G.A.R Post # 326. He was Commander of the Post at one time.
