Richard D. "Speedy" Burke, 69, of Plymouth, passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Nursing Home, Plains Township, after a long battle with cancer. Born May 11, 1943, in White Haven, he was a son of the late Richard Burke and Leona Burke-Zebro.
He attended Hanover Area High School.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
For many years, he was a bodybuilder and loved spending time at the gym. He also competed in bodybuilding competitions.
He greatly enjoyed taking his classic 1968 Chevelle SS to car shows around the area. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He made many friends throughout the years and will be sadly missed by all of them.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, RoseAnn Michael, Bertha May Brown and Betty Jane Ebert.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Rosemary Grevera Burke; daughter Barbara Ann Jones and her husband, Randy L., of Plymouth; grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Koons, Shelby Lynn Jones, Reilly Lynn Jones, Katelyn Jones and Randy Jones, of Plymouth; brothers, Ernest "Butch" Burke and Joseph Zebro; 15 nieces and nephews; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cousins.
Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth, followed by Mass of Christian Burial in All Saints Parish, Plymouth.
Interment will immediately follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Dallas.
