Rochester Mayor. First Democratic Mayor of Rochester, New York. He was a local politician and community leader in the early days of the founding of the city of Rochester. He did, however, fight tooth and nail against the purchase of the Mount Hope site for a cemetery, claiming that this geological wonder was "all hill and down dale", "not fit for pasturing rabbits" and that the "committee deserved desecration" for even considering the area. Nevertheless, he was one of the first people to purchase a plot in the newly dedicated Mount Hope, and occupies the Egyptian style hillside tomb immediately to the right of the Old Crematory.
