She immigrated from Turkey in 1906. Her husband Mardiros Babayan from Chunkoush, Turkey, had first gone to the United States in 1892/3 and lived in Massachusetts and Brooklyn. He became a naturalized citizen at Brooklyn in 1901. Mardiros traveled back to Turkey in 1906 and married Marie, and soon after brought her back with him to the United States. They moved to Philadelphia and lived at 213 So. 52nd St. In 1910 Mardiros brought his brother-in-law Hatchadour Kilidjian from Chunkoush, so it is possible Marie's maiden name was Kilidjian if that was her brother (or Mardiros could have been the brother of Hatchadour's wife Bagdas, this is unknown). A relative (Ohanes) John Mihran Babayan arrived from Chunkoosh in 1912. Mardiros had a nephew (sister's son) Sarkis Boghosian who likely lived with him in Philadelphia after immigrating there. Exactly three months before Marie's death from tuberculosis, she wrote her will, leaving $100 to her husband and the remainder of the estate to her "friend and cousin" Martin Papajian. Martin's mother was a Babayan, so perhaps this relationship was through her husband, or it is a coincidence. Marie died age 23 years and 5 months at Presbyterian Hospital. Mardiros was a cigarette manufacturer, and a few months after Marie's death he applied for a passport in December 1914 to go abroad to Bulgaria and Greece for business and health purposes and returned in May 1915. In the following years he had his own business as a dealer, but not sure what he sold. It appears he returned to Constantinople in 1919 where he married Haiganoush, who returned with him to Philadelphia. Mardiros was not married in 1940 and his death certificate indicates he was divorced from Anna Kaysarlian, it's unclear whether Haiganoush and Anna are the same person or whether he remarried and divorced after her.
