*Lou Collins Crawford is a direct descendant of Daniel Horry & Elizabeth Garnier (both French Huguenots) via her grandfather, Benjamin S. Davis. She is also descended from (French Huguenot) Caleb Avant via her grandmother, Julia Avant Davis.

Maria Louisa "Lou" Collins was born in Marion County, SC in the Ariel section (Ariel's Crossroads). Her parents were the late John E. Collins & Ann Catherine Davis also of Marion County. Her father died in WBTS & her mother remarried to H. Floyd of Horry, SC (so Lou relocated with her mother to Horry). Lou married John D. Crawford about 1883. To this union was born 5 children: Arthur Shepherd Crawford, John R. Crawford, Exa May Crawford, Inez Crawford & Edward Dock Crawford. She is descended from a long line of French Huguenots on her mother's side. Lew's maternal grandparents were both of French Huguenot descent. Her father's family were of English descent. Lou is buried at Crawford Family Cemetery on Tobacco Leaf Lane that is now lost to wilderness. A new stone has been placed at Antioch Baptist Church near Aynor, SC at the foot of her daughter, Inez (in 2011) with her name/dates inscribed in her memory (stone posted here at this memorial).

This marker is at the foot of her daughter, Inez Crawford Martin at Antioch Baptist Church, near Aynor, SC. "Daughter of John & Louisa Collins Crawford." Marker purchased by Keith Edwards in 2011 in memory of them (GG-grandchild via her daughter Inez).

Crawford Cemetery is now lost to wilderness on a 488 acre tract (mostly wooded).
