Earl has an interesting background. His parents, Daniel Christopher (DC) Johnson and Bessie Mae DeBoard, were born and raised in North Carolina. They married there and then headed for Alberta, Canada where Earl and his younger sister, Ilena Mae, were born. Four years later the family was in southeastern Idaho. Three more children were born in Blackfoot and Moreland: Hazel Irene, Edna Nancy, and Georgia Violet.
Earl married Alice Lenore Deeds in Shoshone, Idaho on December 11, 1926. The couple headed to Alberta, Canada. Their first child, Howard, was born there. The family then came back to Idaho and their daughter, Marjorie, was born in Jerome. In 1940 they lived in Richfield, Idaho, eventually moving to American Falls. Earl was a farmer.
