Grand Rapids, O., April 4 -- Martin Kechley, aged 77 years, a retired farmer and Civil War veteran, died at his home here this morning at 7:30 o'clock after about eight months' illness with complication of diseases. Funeral services will be held at the late residence Thursday afternoon at two o'clock and burial will be at Beavercreek cemetery.
Martin Kechley was born in Germany on April 13, 1844, and came to this country when a youn man. He has resided most of his life in this vicinity, where he conducted a tannery before entering the Civil War. The deceased was one of the 100 original members of the Grand Army and his death leaves just three members in the G.A.R. Post here. Since returning from service Mr. Kechley has sold implements at his small shop in this place and also farmed his country place on the River road.
Three children, two sons and one daughter and eight grandchildren survive Mr. Kechley, his wife having preceded him to the life beyond several years ago. The sons are Henry, of Toledo, and Louis, of Grand Rapids, and the daughter is Mrs. Emma Gill, also of this place.
