Mrs. Sheloski was born on March 29, 1914 in Plainville, the daughter of the late Carroll Thomas and Anna Maria (Huber) Cottrell. She was a descendent of the Blossom and Cottrell families of Plainville. Eleanor worked as a commercial artist for a few years.
During the war years she trained at New Britain General Hospital as a nurse employed in the maternity ward. She later worked as an occupational health nurse at Pratt & Whitney, retiring from there after several years. It was during her employment at Pratt & Whitney that she met her husband, Henry D. Sheloski and they were married August 3, 1963 in Bristol. Mr. Sheloski predeceased his wife on January 19th of this year.
After Eleanor's retirement she returned to her love of art. She found great enjoyment in painting and painted water colors for over 50 years. She continued to study and learn about art, exhibiting her work in Connecticut, Florida and Vermont. She was a member of the Chaffee Art Gallery in Rutland, VT, for many years. Eleanor also loved animals and belonged to several humane societies.
While living in Plainville, she was a member of the Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church in Plainville. After her retirement and relocation to Hydeville, VT, she attended Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland, VT.
Mrs. Sheloski is survived by her nephews, Thomas E. Cottrell of Harwich, Mass., Theodore Sheloski, Jr. of Ira, Vt., Staley Sheloski of Bridgeport, Conn., and a niece, Sally Head of Burlington, Conn.; also, by four great-nephews, two great-nieces and two great-great nieces. she was predeceased by her brother, Learned "Mort" Cottrell of Plainville, Conn.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland, Vt.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Rutland Area Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice at PO Box 787, Rutland, Vt., 05702, or the Rutland County Humane Society at 705 Stevens Road, PO Box 558, Pittsford, Ct. 05763.
