Deseray "Desi" Martinez, 45, died Dec. 20, 2010, at the home of a friend in Auburn, Wash. Desi and her 17-year-old daughter, Jennifer, were on vacation at the time of her death. A service was Jan. 13 at the Muldoon Community Assembly, located at 7041 DeBarr Road. The church hosted a reception after the service.
Desi was born Oct. 23, 1965, in San Francisco, Calif., to Mary and David Martinez. Desi grew up in Washington during her elementary and middle-school years, and came to live in Alaska during the fall of 1982. Desi attended East Anchorage High School in the early 1980s and worked a variety of jobs in both the restaurant and clerical industries. She married her first husband, Curt, in 1987 and had two daughters. Desi married her second husband, Joe, in 1994 and had a third daughter. Desi devoted her life to her daughters and her career. She was very active in their gymnastics and cheerleading activities while balancing work and home life. Desi's kind and outgoing personality made her an easy person to love.
Desi leaves behind her children, Stephanie Hopkins, Heather Clayton, and Jennifer Lincoln, all of Anchorage. Desi also leaves behind her siblings, Precious Vicknair of Anchorage, Frank Vicknair of Gresham, Ore., and David Martinez of the Philippines. Visit the online memorial at legacy.com
