He was married at the age of 32, to a young widow, Mary Ann [Brooks] Lougy on 22 January 1841 in Carthage, Hancock, Illinois. Harvey was married to Mary Ann by his brother-in-law, Chester Loveland.
Harvey was a faithful member of the church and was an active member of the Nauvoo 1st ward in Nauvoo, Illinois. He was able to receive his endowments in the Old Nauvoo Temple on February 6, 1846. That temple was later destroyed by mobs. According to the Nauvoo Temple Endowment Register 1845-46, he was also ordained to the office of a Seventy. Harvey died 18 May 1849 in Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth, Kansas.
His body may have originally been buried in Fort Leavenworth Arsenal Cemetery and later moved to the national cemetery, but there is no record of him in the National Cemetery.
