Oscar Ahlberg, son of Nils Peter Ahlberg (1807-1860) and Johanna Carolina Lundgren (1808-1894) was born in Ahus, near Kristianstad, Sweden. He sailed to America before 1870. He is first recorded near Swede Point, Iowa in the 1870 census working for a farmer.

Oscar Ahlberg owned a grocery store on the north side of Main Street in Sheldahl and a men's clothing store on the south side of this street. This building later became the Sheldahl Savings Bank. He, later, formed a partnership with Phil Berggren.

He married Catharina Medora Peterson on November 28, 1874. Catharina died after a few years of marriage. Oscar married Hedda Wilhelmina Olson on September 26, 1878. Five children were born to this marriage. Hedda (Olson) Ahlberg used the name Hattie during her life after marriage.

Children:
1. Frederick Ahlberg (1880-1817) death in Seattle Washington.

5. Lillian Ahlberg (1890-1975) married Berry Preston Sloan, March 01, 1910 in Colorado.

Oscar had a brother, Emil Ahlberg, who also lived in Sheldahl. Emil married Augusta Olson, sister to Hattie Olson Ahlberg. These families lived as neighbors next door in the town of Sheldahl.

Oscar Ahlberg died suddenly on a hot July day while working in the yard. His death on July 30, 1896 was unexpected and left his young family grief stricken. The youngest child was six years old and the oldest about 16. Oscar Ahlberg was 52 years old at his death.
